Drones could deliver medical supplies to remote communities during COVID-19 crisis

Drone Delivery Canada is in discussions with the federal government about drone regulations. If Transport Canada is willing to relax certain rules, they believe drones can help provide rural and remote communities with quicker access to medical and pharmaceutical supplies, while minimizing person-to-person contact.

Drone Delivery Canada is working with Moose Cree First Nation in James Bay, Ontario, to test its first remote community drone trip.

“That’s an example where you’ve got a First Nations population on an island that is really cut off,” said Zahra. “It’s good because you don’t have somebody going there, potentially bringing coronavirus, but it’s bad because they can’t get supplies. So you can send it by drone.” - Michael Zahra, president of Drone Delivery Canada
